What is food insecurity?

Food insecurity is the lack of reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.

It forces families to choose between living essentials like doctor visits or utility payments and healthy food. Food insecurity perpetuates a cycle of overlapping issues that affect the development and the success of families.

Help us fight hunger and food insecurity

Many families have to choose between living essentials and healthy food, and your support can change that.

Our role in the fight against food insecurity

We make healthy food options accessible to our neighbors through our food pantry and by providing guidance through the process of completing Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) applications that help them meet their everyday needs.

A fruitful partnership for Peoplestown

Emmaus House is proud to partner with local nonprofit Atlanta Community Food Bank (ACFB) to supply food for our pantry and to help connect families to SNAP benefits.

A new truck for our food pantry

Keep an eye out for our new (to us) truck, which will make food pantry logistics cheaper and more efficient, and will provide more opportunities for distribution to the communities we serve.

2022 by the numbers

Food insecurity is affecting the way children learn, live, and grow

While the biggest worries for most kids might be chores, homework, or who won the t-ball game, for many others, where their next meal will come from is a greater concern.

Fueling children with holistic programs

Our CDF Freedom Schools ® summer program is designed to motivate young scholars to read, build positive attitudes towards learning, and equip them with the educational resources needed to succeed.

We provide our scholars with the breakfast and lunch they would normally receive during the school year so they can focus on what matters most: learning.

Driving change in Peoplestown and beyond

Emmaus House is committed to addressing the root causes of the economic and social issues our neighbors face.

Food insecurity and hunger are symptomatic of broader problems such as poverty, unemployment, and lack of affordable housing. Through our four strategic priorities, we take a holistic approach to tackling these problems and paving the way for sustainable change in our community.
